Flame Retardant Workwear & Clothing
Often used in the heavy industrial and Oil & Gas sectors, flame retardant or flameproof work clothing comes in many styles and colours, with an array of protection levels and features available. Dickies accelerated their growth in this market back in 2014 by developing a new range of flame retardant overalls and flame resistant clothing that is comfortable, durable and with minimum shrinkage.
With safety and protection being a key area for Dickies workwear, this of course could not be more apparent than for our heat & flame protective range. This is why we include a user guide within all our FR garments. Please read the important information about the protection each garment provides along with the wash care instructions as this will ensure longevity and optimal performance for the wearer.
Here’s a brief roundup of the specifications for our garments:
EN ISO 11612:2008 – Protective clothing for workers exposed to heat & flames (excluding welders & fire fighters). The standard specifies the performance requirements for garments which protect the body from heat & flame.
EN ISO 11611:2007 – Protective clothing for use in welding and allied processes. The standard specifies 2 classes with specific requirements:
Class 1 – lower level - Less hazardous welding situations.
Class 2 – higher level - More hazardous welding situations.
EN 1149-5:2008 – Protective clothing – electrostatic properties. Antistatic PPE covering the performance standards of either test method EN 1149-1 or EN 1149-3.
IEC 61482-2:2009 – Protective clothing against the thermal hazards of an electrical arc. This performance standard specifies requirements and test methods applicable to materials and garments used by electrical workers to protect against the thermal hazards of an electrical arc. Requirements address to the relevant general properties of the textiles and the arc thermal resistance properties. The arc thermal performance can be tested against the European Box test (representing a constrained and direct arc), which is carried out at a current of either 4kA (Class 1) or 7kA (Class 2).
EN ISO 14116:2008 – The protective performance for limited flame spread of materials, material assemblies and protective clothing to reduce the possibility of the clothing burning and constituting a hazard. Additional clothing requirements are also specified.
Index 1 – the flame does not spread, there are no flaming debris, no after glow, a hole may be formed.
Index 2 – the flame does not spread, there are no flaming debris, no after glow, no hole formation.
Index 3 – the flame does not spread, there are no flaming debris, no after glow, no hole formation and the after flame time of each individual specimen is less than 2 seconds.
