Trousers are often called pants and sometimes even slacks. Trousers are an item of clothing that covers the legs, worn over both separately (as opposed to cloth covering both legs, stretched over like a dress or toga). Work trousers have been the standard dress for male employees since the early 16th century. Late into the 20th century it was widely accepted that females could wear them as well.

Trousers are generally worn on the hips or waist, and may be held up with accessories such as suspenders or belts. A new style seems to have been arising amongst the youth of today which involves letting the trousers hang as low down the waist as possible, exposing the underwear. This is especially prevalent to skaters, hip-hop heads and surfers.

Work trousers can take many forms: leggings, for example, are form-fitting trousers made from a stretchable material that stretches to fit the legs. Pants is the general term referring to all two-legged garments, trousers however refer to more formal wear (most of the time) with belt loops and a fly zip (to ease toilet usage).

Trousers can offer cover from the waist down to the foot, while they can also be shortened to anywhere below the top of the thigh. Anything shorter than foot length is considered short trousers, also commonly called shorts. ‘Capris’ are trousers that end just below the calf or mid-calf. A new fashion is zippered trouser legs where a segment of trouser leg is removable using a zip(Cargo).

Work trousers, and normal trousers usually contain pockets. These pockets could be at the front (usually inset) and or at the back (usually patched). Men’s trousers seem to usually have back pockets while it seems more and more common for women to be wearing trousers that have ‘fake’ pockets for style purposes. Some pants (or trousers) have a special ‘money pocket’, located in one of the front pockets. This is usually a small strip of patched material, too small for a wallet, but big enough to contain coins and notes in safety. This little pocket is also known as a ‘fob’ (when containing a pocket watch) or ‘coin pocket’.

The fly allows for ease of dress, and also allows for men to urinate without disrobing. The fly is distinguished into two categories, button-zip flies and zipper flies and is commonly referred to as a ‘zipper’. Remember that the fly may not be present in some styles of work trousers, for example: in loose fitting elasticised pants, the fly may be replaced with a drawstring or elastic waistband.

Dickies Store UK offers multiple styles of work trouser, from tapered to straight leggings. Loose or tight fitting, snug and formfitting, anything you need is available in the highest quality and maximum durability and most importantly at cost affective prices.

It is expected for men to wear trousers in western society (excluding kilts and robes). It is also a fairly new practice of women to wear trousers, as Christians claim the bible says women should only wear dresses and skirts. Dickies Store UK provides both men’s and woman’s work trousers.
